Speed & Treadmill Training Calculator

Calculate exact training time required to reach your target biome speed gate.

Estimated Training Requirement
12 seconds

to gain 90 Speed at +8 Speed/sec

Speed Gain Rate:+8/s
Target Gate:100 Speed
Mutation Chance:2.0% (Reach 150 to double)

How the speed calculator works

In Steal an Egg, your movement Speed decides which biomes you can safely enter and raid. Every biome has a hard Speed Gate, and the gap between your current Speed and that gate is what your Treadmill has to close:

Training Time = (Target Speed − Current Speed) ÷ [Treadmill Rate × (1 + Oni Tiger Buff) × (1 + Trail Boost)]

Reading the estimate

The calculator is a planning tool, not a promise. It multiplies your treadmill rate by your training buffs and divides the remaining gap, which tells you the shape of the grind: whether a gate is minutes away or a multi-session project. Three things it deliberately does not model: the night growth window (which is when most players actually bank Speed), interruptions from raiding or being raided, and any change to treadmill rates or buffs in a patch. Treat the output as a lower bound on effort and re-run it whenever the game updates.

Biome speed gates at a glance

These are the gates listed in our published biome database — the same values the biome guide renders, so the tool and the reference cannot drift apart:

RegionSpeed gateWhat it buys you
Meadow Ridge (Forest)NoneStarting zone: your first eggs and your first pet slots
Lake900First real gate: better pools than the Forest, still forgiving
Desert5,000The mid-game income core most players settle into first
Jungle45,000Where carrying eggs home starts to need a route plan
Snow (Tundra)100,000Higher-tier pools; the band most event content starts from
Prehistoric300,000Late-game pool; secret spawns reported around night resets
Volcano (Lava Ridge)700,000Hard gate plus hazard density; guardians punish slow carriers
Storm Peaks1,500,000High-tier egg pools for players already past Rebirth
Abyss Ocean2,500,000Late-game farming with the steepest risk-to-reward ratio
Cherry Blossom2,500,000,000 (2.5B)End-game region and the Crane / Great Bloom route

Separately from the region gates, one milestone is worth planning for on its own: Speed 150, where the mutation chance is understood to double. It is a community-observed threshold rather than a published figure, so it is listed as a milestone rather than a biome.

For the upgrade order that gets you there, see the Treadmill guide, and for the income side of progression, the Pet Value Calculator.

Three planning mistakes that cost hours

  • Targeting the next zone instead of the next gate you can clear. Entering a region under-gated means being slower than the guardians and slower than every rival — you lose more eggs than you carry home. Pick the gate below your target and farm it comfortably.
  • Buying one huge treadmill tier instead of climbing. Each tier multiplies the rate you train at, so the money you hold back waiting for the big purchase is Speed you never earned. Upgrade in steps and keep training.
  • Ignoring buff multipliers. Training buffs and Trail bonuses multiply the treadmill rate rather than adding to it, so switching on the buffs you already own before a long AFK session is free progress. Tick the boxes above to see the difference on your own numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate treadmill training time in Steal an Egg?

Training time equals (target Speed − current Speed) divided by your Treadmill rate, multiplied by your Oni Tiger buff (+15%) and any equipped trail boost. The calculator above does this for any biome gate you pick.

Why is Speed 150 so important?

Reaching Speed 150 doubles your mutation chance — from roughly 2% per hatch to about 4%. That nearly halves the number of eggs you need for the same mutation odds, so it is worth planning your Treadmill milestones around it.

What is the fastest way to reach the Cherry Blossom region?

The Cherry Blossom gate sits at 2.5 Billion Speed. You will need the highest Treadmill tiers (Cosmic or Sakura Overdrive) plus an Oni Tiger for a 15% training boost, and Rebirth bonuses to cut your grind time.
