Hatch & Mutation Odds Calculator
What “2% per hatch” actually means once you hatch 25 eggs — and how many you really need.
Reaching Speed 150 doubles the base mutation chance — roughly 2% to 4% per hatch.

Formula: chance of at least one success = 1 − (1 − p)n, where p is the per-hatch rate and n is the number of hatches. The maths is exact; the default rates are community-observed, not published by the developer.
How the Speed Training Calculator Works
In Steal an Egg, your character's movement speed determines which biomes you can safely access and raid. Higher biomes have strict Speed Gates (the Desert at 5,000, Storm Peaks at 1.5M, and the end-game Cherry Blossom region at 2.5 Billion) - the full ladder is published on the biome database page.
The formula for calculating progression time is:
Maximizing Pet Cash-Per-Second (CPS)
Passive revenue is the lifeblood of your base. Upgrading your roster from Starter pets to Divine and Secret pets accelerates your progression exponentially:
- Base Multipliers: High-rarity pets like Kitsune ($1.8B/s) and Unicorn ($1.0B/s) form the foundation of end-game income.
- Bloom & Spirit Bloom: Mutating pets at the Cherry Blossom shrine provides up to a 6x income multiplier. See our Mutations Guide for recipes.
- Rebirth Scaling: Each rebirth adds a permanent +5% boost across all equipped pets. Check the Rebirth Guide for unlock milestones.
- Pet Fusion: Combine extra duplicate pets at the Fuse Machine to craft upgraded variants and force mutation rolls.
How the Hatch Odds Calculator Works
A “2% chance” sounds hopeless right up until you run it 25 times. Egg hatching is a sequence of independent rolls, so the odds compound:
With p = 2% and n = 25 hatches, that is roughly a 40% chance of at least one mutation — far better than the 2% your instincts tell you. Push your Speed to 150 and the rate doubles to about 4%, which turns those same 25 hatches into a 64% chance. That is the real value of the Speed 150 milestone: it nearly halves the number of eggs you need to hatch for the same result.
The maths behind the calculator is exact. The default rates are not official — they are community-observed values, which is why the tool lets you type in any rate you want to model.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate treadmill training time in Steal an Egg?
Training time is calculated by taking the difference between your target biome speed gate and your current speed, then dividing it by your treadmill base speed per second multiplied by active pet buffs like Oni Tiger (+15%) and equipped trails.
What is the fastest way to reach the Cherry Blossom region?
Reaching the 2.5 Billion Speed gate requires upgrading to the Cosmic or Sakura Overdrive treadmill tiers and equipping an Oni Tiger for a 15% training speed boost. Combining this with Rebirth bonuses will dramatically reduce your offline grinding time.
How do pet mutation multipliers stack in Steal an Egg?
Mutation multipliers apply directly to the pet base income: Normal (1x), Golden/Mutated (2x), Rainbow (3x), Bloom (4x), and Spirit Bloom (6x). These are further scaled multiplicatively by your Rebirth level (+5% permanent passive income per Rebirth).
What pet generates the highest income in Steal an Egg?
The Kitsune is the #1 earner at $1.8 Billion per second base income, followed by the Unicorn ($1.0 Billion/s) and the Secret Stag ($145 Million/s). Applying a Spirit Bloom mutation to a Kitsune yields over $10 Billion per second.
What is the chance of getting a mutation in Steal an Egg?
Community reports put the base mutation chance at roughly 2% per hatch, doubling to about 4% once you reach Speed 150. Over 25 hatches a 4% rate gives you roughly a 64% chance of at least one mutation. Rates are player-observed rather than published by the developer, so the hatch odds calculator above lets you enter your own numbers.
How many eggs do I need to hatch to guarantee a mutation?
Nothing in a roll-based system is ever guaranteed, but you can pick your own threshold. At a 4% rate you need about 17 hatches for a 50% chance, 57 for 90% and 113 for 99%. The calculator above works this out for any rate and any target.
